Ornamental Horticulture Certificate

This program provides practical training in greenhouse and nursery management, turf production, and landscape management. Coursework encompasses pest control, plant identification, construction of landscapes, small business management, and the operation and maintenance of equipment, including small engines. As an integral part of their training, students are required to complete an internship in the industry. This program is only available at the Salt Lake, Ogden and Orem Education Centers.

Courses are taught in a traditional setting with the professor and students participating together in the same classroom. Students meet at a designated time and place.

Admissions

Students are admitted into this program through the university’s regular admission process.

  1. New freshmen admitted to USU in good standing qualify for admission to this major.
  2. Transfer students from other institutions and from other USU majors need a 2.20 total GPA for admission to this major in good standing.

Requirements

This 27-credit program provides practical hands-on training in greenhouse crop production, turf management, landscape design, installation and management. Coursework encompasses general horticulture knowledge, plant identification, pest management, residential landscape design and fruit and vegetable production. As an integral part of their training, students are required to complete an internship in the industry. This program is only available at the Salt Lake, Ogden and Orem Education Centers.
