Alternative Route to Licensure (ARL), MEd

The Utah State University Alternative Route to Licensure Program (ARL) helps qualified individuals earn a Utah Teaching License for secondary education and a Master of Education Degree. Utah State University works in partnership with the Utah State Office of Education (USOE) to create ARL teachers.   Interested individuals need to have a Bachelor’s Degree with a major in a subject area that is taught in Utah secondary schools. The USOE eligibility requirements must be met in order to be approved for hire (check out USOE requirements at www.schools.utah.gov/cert/apt).

Courses are delivered via state of the art video conferencing technology. Students meet at a designated time and location.

Admissions

Interested students should apply to the USOE for a letter or eligibility to begin the program at www.schools.utah.gov/cert/apt/arl/altapplication.pdf. Once the letter of eligibility is received, candidates must apply to the School of Graduate Studies (see requirements and application at www.usu.edu/graduateschool/apply).  If a student is not accepted to graduate school, he or she can still work toward a teaching license, but will be ineligible for a Master’s degree.
