Online Semester
Students register for semester-based online courses during open registration for campus classes. Semester-based online courses begin and end on the same day as campus courses. Students who register for semester-based online classes will receive passwords at registration. On the first day of the semester, students should login to their classes to become familiar with course structures and requirements. Online exams must be taken under the supervision of an approved proctor. A proctor is an educational official who supervises a student during an exam. Online students submit assignments electronically over the Internet and interact with their instructors and classmates via email and online discussions.
Interactive Broadcast
In cooperation with the Utah Education Network (UEN), interactive broadcast courses are provided to students throughout the state of Utah. The technologies allow students at many locations to all be part of the same classroom and interact in real-time with their instructors and classmates via interactive video technologies. Classrooms located at Utah State University Regional Campus, Centers, and other cooperating sites let students in every corner of the state attend classes close to home.
Print/CD-ROM (Independent Study)
Following student registration in a print-based Independent Study course, a CD-ROM or printed course materials will be issued to the student directly, or mailed if necessary. The course CD-ROM contains a class outline, textbook information, and detailed directions for completing the course. The outline includes structured lessons and assigned readings. Students complete assignments, print them, note questions, and mail or email them to the Distance Education office at the address listed under 'Assignments.' Assignments are then forwarded to instructors for grading. The course instructor has two weeks (14 days) to grade assignments, make comments, answer questions, and return them to the Distance Education Office. Examinations must be taken under the supervision of an approved proctor.
Online Year-long (Independent Study)
Students may register for online Independent Study courses any time and may take up to one calendar year from the registration date to complete the course. Students who register for Independent Study online classes will receive passwords at registration. Within one week after registration, students should log into their classes to become familiar with course structures and requirements. Online students submit assignments electronically (as forms or email attachments) over the Internet and interact with their instructors and classmates via email and online discussions. Online exams must be taken under the supervision of an approved proctor.
Hybrid
Hybrid courses are typically delivered in an online format using communications software such as Adobe Connect (Breeze). While the courses are delivered online some of them are only available to individuals in certain locations. In most cases students are required to participate in hybrid classes at set times, which allows for streaming video and live chat so that students and the instructor can communicate in real-time.
