USU Dietetic Internship participates in the Prior Assessed Learning (PAL) program recognized by the American Dietetic Association (ADA). PAL is designed to grant internship credit in specific rotations of the internship based on the qualified applicant's previous life experiences including work, volunteer, achievement, education, or family responsibilities.
PAL application is made after an applicant is officially appointed to the USU Dietetic Internship (after D&D Digital matching process is complete) in mid April for the Fall start of the internship program. Forms and instructions will be available to interns after they have been matched to the program. Prior to beginning the internship all PAL applications and documentation must be turned into the USU Dietetic Internship office. The USU Dietetic Internship faculty will review all submitted PAL forms and determine if any credit will be given. Additional documentation or clarification may be requested. Calls, e-mails or letters will be sent to contact persons listed on the applicant's documentation for prior learning. An intern may get PAL credit for up to 4 weeks of FSSM, up to 4 weeks of Community and up to 3 weeks of Clinical rotations. Total rotation time credited to PAL may not exceed 6 weeks. Fees for the internship remain the same; no discount to tuition and fees will be given for time taken off program through PAL process. Complete Prior Assessed Learning Policy (PDF)
